这本书告诉我们:出版业很重要

部分章节之前有过汉译和会议发表了。目前的一些感觉:贵领域发掘材料的广度和深度能到达何处?这本书不算是非常扎实的。现有的材料来看,无非是如何阐释的问题,好像很难再看到像李孝悌当年使用报纸材料那样让人耳目一新的尝试了。关于改造部分,笼统地搞出来一个pedagogical state的论法其实意义不大。“文化政治”,着眼点在政治上,政治讲不通就不是有穿透力的研究,这一点还是费约翰搞得好。

主要阅读的民国部分,大部分来自高哲一已经出版的论文集,依然是从出版史介入思想文化史的路数,从商务印印书馆、中华书局和世界书局这三个近代中国最重要的出版社入手,讨论围绕着出版社的知识分子(petty intellectuals这个概念相当有趣,近代以来的知识分子可不仅仅是梁启超胡适,主要从事教科书和一般读物创作的都是所谓的petty intellectuals)、出版印刷主义、知识生产和与政权之间的…

高哲一提到了“文化的物质面”:不是印刷材料也不是印刷技术,而是知识构建中的“日常操作”。在这里包括了主体阶层、社会传统与价值信念。这个框架倒是很像斯梅尔赛的自我、结构与信念。
