Beethoven's piano sonatas form one of the most important collections of works in the whole history of music. 查尔斯•罗森(Charles Rosen,1927—2012),近半个世纪以来影响力最大的音乐学者之一,他的研究重点主要是古典风格音乐与早期浪漫派音乐,相关著作有举世闻名的《古典风格》与《浪漫一代》等。

与此同时,他的著作涉猎十分广泛,从早期巴洛克作曲家,直到勋伯格和卡特等至今许多人仍然无法理解的20世纪作曲家,以及基本音乐哲学理论都有涵盖,且都获得了卓著的成果,其它代表著作包括《奏鸣曲式》《意义的边界》《贝多芬的钢琴奏鸣曲》《音乐与情感》《批判性娱乐》《自由与艺术》等。

罗逍然,古典学及音乐学青年学者,华盛顿大学古典学博士。通晓古希腊文、拉丁文,并掌握英、德、法、意文。音乐学方面译有阿多诺《新音乐的哲学》、罗森《音乐与情感》与《意义的边界》。

古典学方面,在我国首次将古希腊叙事诗《阿尔戈英雄纪》与叙事诗残篇《赫拉克勒斯之盾》翻译成中文并且进行了详尽的注疏,另译有古典学论集《柏拉图与赫西俄德》。此外还有多部古典学以及音乐学方面的著译、笺释待出。

因为我不是音乐系的学生,所以我等了好几个月才拿到这本书,拿到之后图书馆只给了我不到两个礼拜的时间。不过我还是认认真真看完了,老罗森在这里的重点是分句、速度、踏板、文本以及历史语境,并没有说那些别人都说滥的东西,比如什么主题缩减(见Brendel的论述)之类的。每次看罗森的书都是对读谱能力的一次进步,你看了表情记号和音符,但是你真的认真考虑了连线、断奏符号、顿奏符号和踏板么?不过,看老罗森的书的坏处…
