London Literary Society 的前传，其实就是约翰逊博士，和约翰逊博士跟班、传记作者Boswell的合传，再兼及俱乐部几个最有名的成员。Boswell决定了这本书八卦的性质，适合睡前和飞机上的阅读。但Leo Damrosch温和的气质不太适合八卦，比起Menand的《形而上学俱乐部》缺少煽情点，文笔也缺点那种改变或者定义一个时代的蓬勃之气。
