Defoe/叙述者在具体详细真实地叙述瘟疫实况和意识到一切叙事（数字，报表，概述，轶闻）在瘟疫面前都会失效之间的纠结很有趣。在奠定了现代小说的文体之前，笛福采用的叙事手段颇有特色。还有那个在灾难里变形的人颇像卡夫卡的风格。

非常惊叹于笛福充满理性的记录和分析，在那个信息传播相当缓慢的时代，能够对现有信息进行这么全面的分析，实在令人佩服。以及他无时无刻不显露出的教徒的虔诚。
